One amp setting parked on the edge of breakup. No pedal dance, no channel switch — your guitar volume is the channel. Roll it back for chime, dig in and crank it for the scream. The Butter Machine and the okoume do the rest.
Bridge humbucker, amp poised right where it's about to tip into saturation, the Butter Machine adding the gain that cleans up when you roll back. At 10 it screams; at 6 it chimes. A treble bleed on the volume is non-negotiable — without it the cleans go dull instead of glassy.
Scream. Full singing lead saturation, sustain for days, feedback bloom on held notes. Dig in. This is the solo voice.
Crunch. Rhythm grind — chords stay defined, single notes growl. The riff voice.
Clean. The breakup falls away into chime and bloom, okoume out front. Comping and arpeggios.
Sparkle. Glassy, near-acoustic clean. The calm before you crank back up.
Dial it once: set the amp at full guitar volume first so the scream is exactly where you want it, then roll back and confirm 6 goes clean. Adjust the Butter Machine Gain — more = the clean point moves higher up the dial.
Your other two controls: pick attack (dig in for grit, lighten for clean) and pickup choice — flip to the neck SSV for a warmer clean and a rounder scream if the bridge feels too aggressive.
Power-scaling low lets the Badger sag at room volume, so the breakup edge is reachable without stage levels. Keep Drive within 2 of Power.
e|------------------------------------ B|------------------------------------ G|------------------------------------ D|----------5--7--5------------------- A|-2--0--2--------------2--0---------- E|------------------------------------ B A B G A G B A ( ♭6=G ♭7=A )
Attack: guitar at 8 for the crunch grind, palm-mute the low Bs. The G–A–G (♭6–♭7–♭6) on the D string is the renegade growl. Roll to 10 and let the last B howl.
e|------------------7--10------------- B|--------------8h10-------10b(full)~~ G|------7--9-------------------------- D|-9---------------------------------- B D E G(♭6) A B D A->B bend
Attack: volume at 10, dig in for full saturation. Hit the G (B-string 8) hard — that ♭6 is the dark money note. End on the full bend with wide 510 vibrato.
e|------------------------------------ B|------------------------------------ G|------------4----5------------------ D|-0--0-3--5-----------0--0----------- E|------------------------------------ D D F G B(6) C(♭7) D D
Attack: a Dm groove — the B natural (G-string 4) is what makes it Dorian and not plain minor. Lean on it. Note how much brighter this feels than the Bm riffs above, even on the same tone.
e|------------10--12------------------ B|--------12-------------------------- G|----10-12--------------------------- D|-12--------------------------------- D F G B(6) D E ( ascending D Dorian )
Attack: volume at 10 for the scream. The B at B-string 12 is the Dorian 6 again — resolve up to D and E. Open, hopeful, the opposite of the renegade dark. That contrast is the lesson.
