Honky Blues

Four long, funky 4-bar blues riffs — the greasy, piano-into-guitar, behind-the-beat kind. Built on 9ths, chromatic passing tones, and syncopated dead-note funk. Original, complex, and made to loop. Tap to hear; the tab is generated from the audio so it’s always right.

What makes it funky (not just bluesy)

Four ingredients. Dead notes — muted "chuck" clicks between the real notes for percussive grease. 9th-chord stabs — the James-Brown/Texas-funk colour, not plain power chords. Chromatic approach — sliding into target notes from a fret below. Syncopation & space — landing off the beat and leaving holes for the groove to breathe. Play them behind the beat, slightly lazy — that’s the swagger.

96 bpm · 12/8 shuffle · A blues (A7 D7 E7) · 12-bar · ~2:30

A greasy shuffle in A with a walking bass, organ stabs and brushed drums — the honky-tonk pocket. All four riffs sit over the A7 (I) bars; move them up for the D7 and E7 changes (up a 4th, then up a 5th). Import to Cubase, loop it, and play lazy.
