The Fleet
Five guitars, every spec I could find

Assembled September 2026 from Suhr, PRS and Eastman published specs, dealer listings and pickup datasheets, plus what you've told me. Suhr custom orders vary by build sheet, so those entries show the model standard and flag what to confirm against your paperwork. Pickup DC resistances are manufacturer nominal unless marked measured.

Confirmed = you told me or it's fixed for the model  ·  Standard = model default, probably right  ·  Check = custom-order option, verify on your build sheet or the guitar itself

Suhr S Custom

2014 · custom order · Lake Elsinore, CA · the honk guitar
BodyAlder is the S standard; swamp ash and basswood were options.Check
NeckMaple, quartersawn typical on customs. Profile: Even Slim C or Even C were the 2014 defaults; Suhr's big list also had Modern Elliptical, Standard C, V shapes.Check
FingerboardMaple or Indian rosewood (Pau Ferro came later). Compound radius 9"–12" on S types; 10"–14" was optional.Check
Scale25.5"Confirmed
Frets22, medium jumbo or jumbo, nickel or stainless. Suhr moved to PLEK'd fretwork around this era.Check
NutTusq. 1.650" standard, 1.6875" optional.Check
BridgeGotoh 510 (steel block, dual knife-edge) or Wilkinson/Gotoh VS100 on 2014 builds.Check
TunersSuhr locking, 18:1, staggered posts, no string tree.Standard
ElectronicsSSS, 5-way blade, volume, tone. Standard Suhr wiring puts the tone on all positions; the SSCII silent single-coil system was an option on 2014 customs and is worth checking for, because it changes how much hum you get in 1, 3 and 5.Check

Pickups — Suhr ML Standard, Michael Landau signature set

Neck ML Standard · Alnico V · ~6.5 kΩ (some sheets say 6.4) · braided cloth lead
Middle ML Standard · Alnico V · ~6.5 kΩ · reverse wind / reverse polarity, so 2 and 4 are hum-cancelling
Bridge ML Standard · Alnico V · ~6.9 kΩ (some sheets say 7.2)
Designed by John Suhr with Landau and Kirk Fletcher from the best of Landau's vintage pickups. Early-60s Alnico V magnet spec, computer-wound to mimic scatter-wound hand winding, modified staggered pole pieces for flatter radii and modern gauges. The Standard is the hotter of the two ML variants; the Classic is the more vintage one. Voiced for tight lows, focused mids, smooth top.
Why it sounds the way it does — the ML Standard is a 6.5k pickup on a 25.5" alder guitar, which is the blueprint for the Landau Strat sound: enough wind to fatten the mids, not enough to lose the snap. This is why it pairs with the Butter Machine and the Jan Ray and why it's the guitar for Zone 1 and the sixths.

Suhr Custom Standard

2025 · custom order · chambered okoume · the all-rounder
BodyAfrican okoume, chambered. Okoume is a lighter, softer relative of mahogany; Suhr uses it on Standards and Moderns for weight and a slightly more open low-mid than mahogany. Chambering takes another 300–500 g out and opens the neck-pickup response.Confirmed
TopStandard = flat top, no maple cap unless ordered. If yours has a figured top, it's a bolt-on cap over the chambers.Check
NeckMaple is standard on Standards; mahogany/okoume necks are an option and are common on okoume builds. Profile per your sheet: Suhr's current list is Even Slim C, Even C, Modern Elliptical (.800–.850"), Standard C, and the 60s C.Check
FingerboardIndian rosewood. Radius per sheet, 10"–14" compound is the Standard default.Confirmed / Check radius
Scale25.5"Confirmed
Frets22 on the Standard body (24 is the Modern). Stainless jumbo is the current custom default, medium jumbo optional.Check size
NutTusq, 1.650" or 1.6875".Check
BridgeGotoh 510 tremolo with steel block, or a hardtail if you ordered one.Check
TunersSuhr locking, 18:1, staggered.Standard
ElectronicsHH. Suhr's default HH wiring is a 5-way blade: 1 bridge, 2 bridge split + neck split, 3 both, 4 neck split, 5 neck; or a 3-way toggle with push/pull split. Which you have changes whether you get a single-coil-ish position without touching a knob.Check

Pickups — Suhr SSV neck / SSH+ bridge

Neck SSV · Alnico V · ~8 kΩ · 50 mm spacing · 4-conductor. Vintage-output PAF-type with a wide dynamic window and very little compression; Suhr describes it as warmer than a real vintage unit with more clarity, and "a bit more honk and snarl."
Bridge SSH+ · Alnico V · ~17 kΩ · 50 or 53 mm · 4-conductor. Suhr's standard high-output bridge: bright, cutting top, strong harmonics, focused low end. The 17k figure is the wind, not the loudness; it's hot but not muddy because the magnet and the bright top keep it open.
Why it sounds the way it does — an 8k vintage-wind neck on a chambered light body is the most resonant clean humbucker sound in the fleet, and a 17k bridge on the same guitar is the tightest thing you own under the Las Lunas. The two pickups are deliberately mismatched, roughly 2:1 in output, which is why the neck cleans up and the bridge doesn't, and why the middle position is worth exploring with the bridge split.
One thing to measure — with the two pickups this far apart in output, pickup height sets the balance. If the bridge is overwhelming the neck on the 5-way, drop the bridge a half-turn rather than raising the neck.

Suhr Modern

2026 · the 24-fret, upper-neck, gain guitar
BodyModern Pro / Modern Satin ship in African okoume or African mahogany; customs take basswood, alder, ash. Asymmetrical body, extended cutaway, sculpted heel.Check
NeckModern Elliptical profile, .800" at the 1st fret to .850" at the 12th, rolled edges. Quartersawn maple on Pro, okoume/mahogany on Satin, satin acrylic urethane finish.Standard
Fingerboard10"–14" compound radius. Pau Ferro, maple, Indian rosewood or Macassar ebony depending on line.Check wood
Scale25.5"Confirmed
Frets24 jumbo stainless steel, PLEK'd.Standard
NutTusq, 1.650"Standard
BridgeGotoh 510 (steel block, stainless saddles) or Original Floyd Rose. Which you have matters for the fingerpicking pack: a 510 can be blocked or floated; a Floyd wants to float.Check
TunersSuhr locking, 18:1Standard
ElectronicsHH: 3-way or 5-way with splits. HSH: 5-way blade with volume, tone, push/pull split. Your "stock pickups" note reads as the SSV/SSH+ set, which is the Modern default in both HH and HSH.Check HH vs HSH

Pickups — stock Modern set

Neck SSV · Alnico V · ~8 kΩ · 50 mm
Middle (HSH only) Suhr ML single coil · Alnico V · ~6.5 kΩ RW/RP
Bridge SSH+ · Alnico V · ~17 kΩ · 53 mm on Moderns
Same neck and bridge as the Custom Standard, on a 24-fret neck. Because 24 frets pushes the neck pickup toward the bridge, the SSV here sits about 40 mm further from the neck than on a 22-fret guitar and sounds noticeably brighter and tighter; it will never be as woody as the same pickup in the Custom Standard, and that's physics, not a fault. Some Moderns ship with Thornbucker/Thornbucker+ instead; if the bridge reads under 12k it's a Thornbucker.
Why it sounds the way it does — identical pickups to the Custom Standard, but a solid body, 24 frets, a flatter 14" radius at the top and stainless jumbos. It's built for the upper neck and for gain, and the SSV in the 24-fret position is why it's the one Suhr I told you not to fingerpick.
Quick test — measure the bridge pickup DC resistance at the jack in position 1 with the volume full. ~17k means SSH+, ~9–10k means SSV+ or Thornbucker. That single number tells you which Modern you have.

Pickups — PRS 59/09, uncovered

Treble (bridge) 59/09 · Alnico · uncovered · roughly ~9 kΩ
Bass (neck) 59/09 · Alnico · uncovered · roughly ~8 kΩ
The 59/09 is the overwound sibling of the 57/08, both wound on the machine PRS bought from the original Gibson PAF line. Vintage-voiced with more output and a bit more push than the 57/08; less "quack" than the 85/15 that replaced it in 2015. The two are reverse-polarity to each other so the blade's split positions stay quiet. PRS doesn't publish DCR figures for these, so treat the numbers above as owner-measured ballpark.
Why it sounds the way it does — 25" scale, mahogany neck and body, maple cap, and a PAF-lineage pickup with a touch more wind. Everything here rounds the note off: it's the lushest clean in the fleet and the softest attack, which is why it's the chord-melody and 6/9-loop guitar and not the glass guitar. Position 4 is your funk seat; position 2 is the fat chank.

Pickups — Kent Armstrong HPAN-1N / HPAN-1B

Neck HPAN-1N · PAF-type · measured 8.46 kΩ on a shop example
Bridge HPAN-1B · PAF-type · slightly hotter wind, likely ~9 kΩ (not published)
Medium-output PAF-style humbuckers. Reviewers put them as warm and resonant in the neck without losing the top, and "70s rock growl" in the bridge. They are the weakest link in the guitar on paper and the most-swapped part on T386s; owners who swap tend to go Lollar Imperials, Bare Knuckle Stormy Mondays or Suhr Thornbuckers. Yours are fine until you decide they aren't.
Why it sounds the way it does — laminated maple with a centre block is exactly the 335 recipe, so it blooms and it also holds together. The wide 1¾" nut and ebony board are what make it feel different under the fingers from anything else you own, and the 12" radius sits between the Suhrs and the PRS. The .078" factory action is why I said get it set up.

What the table says — you have three scale lengths, three radii, four nut widths and pickup outputs from 6.5k to 17k. The fleet isn't five versions of one guitar; the only genuine overlap is the Custom Standard and the Modern, and the 24-fret pickup position and solid body pull those apart more than the shared pickups pull them together.

Five things to confirm with a multimeter and a ruler

1Modern bridge DCR at the jack, position 1, volume full. ~17k = SSH+.
2Custom Standard switching: does the 5-way give a split position without a push/pull, or is it a toggle with a pull?
3Suhr S: is there an SSCII hum-cancelling board in the cavity? Look for a small PCB. If yes, positions 1, 3 and 5 are quiet and the fuzz will behave differently.
4Custom Standard and Modern radius: straightedge at the 1st and 12th; 10"–14" compound is likely on both.
5T386 action at the 12th after the setup: aim for .060" bass / .050" treble with 10s, which is where the fingerpicking pack wants it.

Send me the answers and I'll fold them in and lock the dossier.
